Then There’s This

Mardi Gras Red.

Mardi Gras.

Things are taking shape. The city is getting ready. Decorations are popping up everywhere.

Normally they are green, gold and purple.

I have no idea why these are red. Or, why the skulls are featured. But, the whole thing caught my attention. Hopefully it will catch yours.

The picture. Oh, you know.

Soon. For most people. We have some private events and stuff like that… 🙂

In the 1950’s my parents visited NO during Mardi Gras and come home with stories of beautiful costumes and parade floats and friendly people. I was teed off I wasn’t with them!! Now, today, I see on the ‘Cops’ TV show what Mardi Gras is now and I have no wish to go.

I don’t think I’d use Cops as a bell weather of anything.

I don’t know what you saw, but for us we go to a private ball, attend the parades and host a brunch on the Sunday before Mardi Gras Tuesday. It’s more like Christmas or Thanksgiving for us. Our neighbors, friends and family come over. Eventually they wander down the street to St. Charles Avenue and watch the parades. Our children go to almost every parade and come home with tons of throws. I work from the start of each parade. Type Mardi Gras into the search box here on Storyteller. You’ll see. If Cops is showing Bourbon Street, in the Quarter, that’s for tourists. I can think of the last time we went there, even in non-party times.

I guess you’re right. But my parents were tourists too – I think it’s the times and a private party is like Bourbon St. used to be.

I sort of missed the first parade, which unfortunately fell on last Saturday night. I was finishing with the women’s marches and couldn’t be in two places at once. The rest start in a couple of weeks.
