Only the Song Survives

On Palm Sunday

On Palm Sunday.

The world is upside down. Time has no meaning. People are living in fear. Stupidity is the order of the day.

There is hope. Even though the current state of change is very negative, there are those of us who think that if we make it to the other side there is reason something positive can come of this. I happen to be one of those people who might not make it. I’m in a very vulnerable age group. I have one underlying condition.

If I follow the directions I can make it. I think I can. But, the government advice keeps changing. Last week we were told to buy enough food for seven days. Now were are being told that “this is not the time to go shopping. This is not the time to go to the pharmacy.” Great. Just great. We have enough food to make it through a week. Luckily. I do have to go to the pharmacy. Eventually.

We are told to wear masks in public. The president says that’s just advice and he won’t be wearing one. What kind of leadership is that? I could go on and on about this, but I won’t. What’s the point?

The picture. It’s layered to make a point about spring. Now that the unseasonable heat has passed and we are living in typical spring weather, beauty abounds. I enhanced it. Two Irises in one. Since Catholics cannot hold services in the real world, this is for them.

Stay safe. Care for each other. Keep your distance. Mask up. Enjoy every plate of pasta.

    1. My pharmacy is an old family owned business. The cashiers still have no computer terminals. In order to construct a drive through lane and service windows they’d have to destroy the snowball stand next door. That ain’t happening in New orleans. 🙂

  1. In our area in France it seems everyone is taking care and following guidelines. There is no rush to buy things and distances are generally being upheld. Our county, 23, has the lowest infection rate, but then we are rural by French rural standards. We are avoiding going out and have enough food for months if we live on pasta and lentils! Stay safe Ray xx

    1. I wish we were like France is. Our infection rate is doubling every three days. Supposedly, this is the week of extreme sadness. I don’t know what you think of Macron, but my country has an leader and an idiot for a president. I’ve enjoyed you past couple of posts. I just haven’t the time to say so. Take care, stay safe.

      1. I am not really following the French virus news blow by blow but it seems generally the French being conservative. You had a new hospital open this week? I worry also about the economic backlash. It’s going to be so difficult for many people. Thanks ‘re the posts. I am so busy I often forget to blog and then rush my posts. But at least we are blogging. It’s company and I like that everyone tries. X

      2. No. We’ve had two field hospitals and converted the convention center into a hospital. The city has also drafted two hotels for recovering victims. And, they put the homeless into a third hotel. I have been contacted by the DOD (Department of Defense) .They asked me to fly again. Certain MOS (job descriptions) can be called back way after you’ve served your time. I flew medivac missions during the Vietnam War. I’m a little old, but my timing is still fairly good and my license is current. I was trained with never leaving anybody behind. This will mostly resupply missions. It’s the least that I can do.

Yes. That’s mostly why I’m blogging. Company. Although I have three online meetings just to reconnect with old groups of friends. That’s been something very cool to come out of this. Hugs.

      3. You have an interesting past. I would be quite daunted going back on an old profession but honoured to be asked and yes if your health is up to it, a great help. I assume it’s not everyone who can fly these at short notice.
I have a friend who is a paramedic. We worked together in the ambulance side. He is totally committed to helping in this time but also a self defense specialist for a time he believes there will be more anger.

      4. Interesting. — The worst possible Chinese curse. That’s about right for me. I qualify every year so that the only thing I must do when I pick up a helo is fly for about an hour around the base I’m assigned to. I have a huge amount of air combat hours which is why the DOD wants to call me up. I really am too old to be doing this, but all those hours probably make me a better aviator than the young guys.

  2. Ray, I worry about things in New Orleans. Diane and I are the same old folks bracket being 81 and Diane 79.
We are doing OK here in Monroe,Washington, with plenty of food and current prescriptions. I don’t understand the change to don’t go shopping or to the pharmacy. Then I think our President is ill equipped to lead a country.
There I said it without calling him an idiot.

    1. We are fine. We are also tough and resilient. We are very careful. We’ve gone to the grocery store and the pharmacy. That won’t change. We shop at a store that is open at 7am for people in our categories. You need an ID if there is any question. They let in five shoppers at a time. The store has six foot line and plastic guards at each check out station. I’ll call the president an idiot. I’ll call him a lot of other things too.
