A Very Long Curve… Trying Something New


I promised myself that during the lockdown I would learn something new.

WordPress made that easy. Or, hard depending on your view. Like all major digital, internet based companies, they tell you what to do. Whatever happened to “the customer is always right?”

I believe on June 1, they ‘re taking away all of the older page templates except for one that is older then Storyteller.

This going to be a long, hard learning curve. WordPress says it’s easier. Ha!

Please feel free to make comments, especially those of you who hate this page. You won’t hurt my feelings. I’m not sure how I feel about.it anyway. It is different. But difference for its own sake is a big mistake.

Anyway.

No Rona news again. I reckon that you most of you are deluged with it.

Well. This is different. I suppose I could figure out how to drop the text, but it’s getting late.

So.

Sophie Rose is feeling much better. The Tramadol seems to be doing its job. She even asked me to go out. I haven’t seen that in a log while. We went for a short work. Progress.

    Oh crap. So you’re telling me that all templates are going away or just the older ones? How would one know if the template is staying or going? Obviously a learning curve. Cheers to you for jumping into the fray.

    I see some odds things. Two sets of comments & two comment boxes … the first requiring an email … the second being “old style”. Hmmmm ….

      There is a lot that I didn’t understand yesterday or even the days before when I first started using the block system. Think of it this way. Your template — the one that you chose whenever you started blogging — is the entire “newspaper.” It contains advertising and editorial content. Advertising is all the details, like comments, and sharing buttons and archives and other blogs you might follow. That stuff. Then, there is an editorial template. That comes with your blog template. That’s your content. That’s what the block system overrides. It gives you options, lots of options in how you design your editorial page. For the past few weeks I’ve been making my block system page look like my normal editorial page. Because I did not understand the advertising-editorial concept I created a horrible page yesterday. Today, I went back to what Storyteller normally looks like. After that, I started experimenting on other design. It really works well. Just always remember design editorial only. And, that’s easy. Who wants to add advertising everyday?

      I jumped in early because I know digital change is very hard for me. I wanted to learn what I could as soon as I could. It took me at least three weeks before I made today’s big breakthrough. I’m thinking that this will make converting my blog to a website with a blog. the so-called “newspaper” way of looking at this came out of my head. It’s a way for me to understand this huge change.

      Sophie Rose is comfortable. She won’t get truly healthy until she has her dental work. I suspect that she going to lose a couple of teeth. Once that is done, the gum infection can be treated. Her dental work won’t be done for another week or so. I call this period of Covid19, Life During Wartime. Everything is slow. Nothing is really easy. All systems are broken and are being revived using creative whole cloth. So too, at her vet’s office.

        Thanks for all the scoop. Although I’m not posting but odds are good I will return in the fall with a different blog. So how did you learn? Videos? A class? Reading?

        I tinker with stuff. I figured out how to do it by fooling with it. But, I had to get angry with it. I’m also motivated by fear of failure

      Thank you. She is feeling better. Her bladder stone is breaking up as we’d hoped. Her jaw infection is getting a little better. She has a dental appointment in a week. I think she might lose a couple teeth but after that she’ll be fine.

      Kathy, I thought that I replied to your comment. My WP desktop isn’t showing that. She’s getting a little better everyday. She still needs some dental work, but it seems that the meds she is taking for her bladder stone is settling down her gum infection. She is still going to need dental work and will probably lose a couple of teeth.

      Speaking of radford, I was playing around on Google earth and was looking for where we once worked. I can’t even remember the street. Man. The city sure has grown. It dawned on me, it’s been 40 years since I was last there. Time flies… Take care from swamp city.
