They Told Us

Deep, dark at dusk.

They said that we were going to have snow. Yep. That’s what they said. We may still see some, but the national weather maps have snow as a possibility in northern Louisiana. Not down here in the swamp.

The temperature is cold for us. We had a high of 40 degrees. We had cold rain. We had miserable dogs. They don’t like going out in rain. They really hated cold rain.

For me, a guy who dislikes summer’s heat and likes cold weather, this is a dream.

However spring flowers are already blooming. The Japonica tree has quarter-size buds on it. Sheesh. It’s mid-January. And, barely that.

Maybe that’s a sign. A sign of things to come. On the other hand, I’m about ready to toast 2022.

2021 already seems to be saying to 2020, “Hold my beer.” Maybe things will get better. I do worry about the next nine days.

Maybe I’m worrying for nothing.

I hope so.

This is what I saw before the cold rain came pouring down.

I normally don’t make a cloud picture without some kind of anchor — a tree, a building, the ubiquitous telephone poles — but theses were just to powerful to ignore.

You know the next step. And, the step after that.

This image took almost no work in post because I exposed for that highlight — the bit of sky that is bright white and blown out.

I usually do that by accident.

Stay safe. Stay strong. Stay mighty. Wear your mask. Wash your hands. Keep your distance. Look after each other. Enjoy the cold weather.

My two Jack’s seem to love the rain, mud and then funnily, bath time. A ritual of getting warm, clean then rolling around in your favorite dog blanket to dry and get re-doggie smelling. Plus treats of course!

Jacks like that. So should spaniels because they are bred down gun dogs. Mine are just precious.

I always wanted dogs so these guys are precious. That’s a good word. Hope your doing ok. Hows the aches and pains? My back is doing great. I nurture it and that seems to be paying dividends. Migraines could be sinus. Getting to grips with it.

Because I lived in Hong Kong for six years when it was still under British rule, I use precious in a way that isn’t so complimentary. I had an MRI a couple of weeks ago. Osteoarthritis is progressing which we knew it would. No five vertebrae are impacted, as well as a sort of twist in my spine and stenosis which is the narrowing of the sheath that protects the nerve that runs from the base of the skull to your butt. That’s causing a pinched nerve which is where most of my pain and walking issues start. I’m going to have an epidural — not the kind the pregnant women have when they are giving birth — but something longer lasting. It should help a lot. With luck, it will stop the inflammation which is really what hurts. Without luck, I may need another in six months.

Good luck with all that. The epidural I had during my hysterectomy numbed me up so well they thought I might never walk again! It was a scary extra nine hours but I dud the Kill Bill singling if ties and in the end things moved. But Sorry didn’t mean to scare you but I know you would have made all the right checks. I have to bend a lot at night and get up and walk a little. I try to not lift anything heavy and try not to twist too much. I hope I can get back to some yoga but if the back starts as now I am happy. One codeine first thing seems to help too. Walking after an hours worth is a killer. I used to get ‘stuck’ en-route to and from Victorua station and Tony would have to literally hold me up to get home. My whole back would go rigid. I wondered if it was the epidural issue. Hopefully it will help you and you can get some respite.

I haven’t made all the checks yet. The jury so far is mixed. My final check is with a friend of mine who is a retired neurosurgeon. Your back seems way more ruined than mine is so far. I did have a huge issue last year about this time. I couldn’t walk far and then the agony came. That turned out to be a simply fix. It seems that if you are limping along and not walking correctly you affect the bursa sac, causing Bursitis. On steroid injection and a few days later the intense pain was gone. I had a follow up injection three months later a year ago and the really terrible pain has not returned.

Good to double check. My back is doing ok as long as I respect it. I am most days doing physical stuff which seems to help..as I am strengthening other muscles. The chiropractor did the job but very scary…wont want that again. It hurt but it was more a fear that he would mess it up. But it cured the agony I was having just getting out of bed, chairs, or twisting.
