hat does it mean to travel? That’s a good question. For some it just means visiting a place “not to be missed.” For others it means trying to learn and understand different points of view.
One is sort of rushed. The other is relaxed. For example the picture called “Father and Son” was made because I went to a baseball game. Even though I carry a camera everywhere I wasn’t looking for a picture. It just happened.
On the other hand, I have a friend who likes to go on cruises with his wife. I had to laugh today when he posted that all the Caribbean Islands — St. Kitts, Nevis, St. Maarten and a couple of others all look the same. They do if you never get beyond the tourist traps that are just beyond the ship.
Book an overnight stay and take sometime to explore and none of them will look the same. After all, everyone of them was once an island belonging to a different country. For instance, St. Maarten is Dutch while a very short flight away St. Barts is French. Different customs and architecture styles for each island.
My favorite way to explore is to hang out for about a week, find a good coffee shop and go there everyday. I get to know a few locals who will tell where I really should go. And, you never know what will happen in front of me.
Many of these pictures were made on the way to my destination. My way of doing that is to plan for an eight to ten hour trip over a distance that should really take half of that. I can look, stop, make a few pictures and eventually move on.
That’s it for now.
