ike a bolt from the blue. It hit me. I’ve been struggling to figure out how to organize my curating. Without blowing my own horn, I’ve made so many Mardi Gras pictures over the years that I get overwhelmed looking at them.
That bolt though. What is Mardi Gras really about?
People. No matter your level of participation, it’s always about people. Many locals see it as a kind of Thanksgiving holiday. We get together with family and friends. We share a meal or twenty. Maybe we are lucky and attend a ball. Maybe we are tourists and enjoy the parades, beads and partying.
Some people hate it and leave. I have one friend who always takes a group of people to France every year in an effort to stay out of Mardi Gras traffic. This year, I think a lot of us will be happy if people don’t die by gun shot or by virus.
Me? My year will be very good if we don’t get hit by a chunk of rock hurtling through space.
There’s more. See below.

y singer songwriter wrote, “The wars I lost I shouldn’t have fought.” Well, well, well… I started one.
I tweeted to the mayor that she should just get on with it and resign. She held a mayor’s ball. Nobody was masked. This, after saying there is a mask mandate indoors for all of Mardi Gras.
Partying? What the hell?
She’s got a city that looks like it’s in open warfare. People are getting shot and stabbed. People are getting hijacked and mugged. I feel the need to go anywhere armed. One of these days, I’m gonna shoot somebody in self defense. That’s no fun.
The city is falling apart. Literally. Ida damage aside, my street looks like Berlin 1946. The street is torn up. In order to repair the potholes city contractors tore up the entire street. Last spring. This is happening all over the city.
The mayor is supposed to lead us. By partying.
I also suggested that she go back to where she came from… South Central Los Angeles.
Her young handlers didn’t like that. They did the worst thing they could do. They engaged me. Oh, never do that.
You can just guess at what happened.
And, that’s that.
