Purple Haze

till looking and experimenting in order to find a path forward. I layered two pictures which is nothing new for me. Then I added some of what I call inscribing that I used on that mostly black and white tree image a few days ago.

Some people really like it. A couple people didn’t like it at all and suggested that I just work with my “regular” photography. Of course, they don’t know what that is because the only see my work on Meta products. They don’t come here.

At least I’m having fun playing around with color and technique. And, these days that means a lot.

I

have an observation.

It’s about current events in the Russia v Ukraine War. I got into a brutal fight with two old high school classmates on Facebook. They believe we should enter the ground war to help the Ukrainians. I’m opposed.

First, I am of Ukrainian descent. This war hurts me more than you can ever know.

When my dad suffered the last of the strokes that would eventually kill him he became aphasic.

He could understand, but he spoke nonsense. Or, so everybody thought until I realized I knew a few of the words. I asked the nurse if anybody spoke Ukrainian. A nurse did and came over to talk to my dad. They spoke for about a half hour. Apparently, the stroke knocked him back to his mother tongue.

That said, my two former classmates got nastier and nastier. One of them said I need a few drinks to calm down. The other said I must have been drunk. Funny thing I was never upset until then. I didn’t need to calm down. They did.

But, that was a bridge too far.

Many of you know that I don’t drink. I’m long recovered. In fact on 3 April, I’ll have 30 years of sobriety. I’m proud of that. I didn’t think that I could do it even one day at a time.

I did the only thing that I could do.

I blocked them.

I didn’t understand why so many people want to blow stuff up. Then, it hit me. After two years of CoVid, inflation, ever raising gas prices, storms and whatever else, many people are angry. Make that furious.

They see a way at striking back at a bad guy. They are all for it no matter the consequences. No matter if entering the war creates a Russia against United States and NATO troops. No matter if that starts a tactical nuclear war which almost certainly will turn strategic and Europe and the world will be on fire.

Your perspective is really important, Ray. I appreciate hearing your thoughts. It’s really unfortunate, an understatement for sure, that old friends turned the dialogue into a conflict that completely undermines and invalidates years of friendship. I think it’s true that anger and frustration have weakened the ability to think rationally.

Thank you. I know anger has hurt all of us even if we aren’t angry. I suspect my former friends are like the Republicans in Congress who voted against the big bill that had funds for Ukraine. Then they attacked the president for not doing enough. This week they voted unanimously for more funding. They did it in two days. Funny about my high school friends. They’ve grown really conservative and mean spirited. And, we grew up in the hippy years.
