Blue Mind

Looking west.

Y

ou knew it. I know it. I change my mind on a whim. This is image comes from my archives. It is one of the PicFair images. The most amazing thing is the photograph was made using an iPhone 6. Yes, it was edgy in it’s time, but it was nothing like the phones of today. I’ve opened the image as big as my monitor could display it and it holds up just fine.

I hate to keep beating this drum, but your Meta feeds are about to change yet again. Mark Zuckerberg announced yesterday that they were going to down grade your friends and upgrade the amount of videos and paid content producers you will see. As it already is, at least a third of my feeds are plugged up with advertising. Who needs that?

Today my friends see my pictures regularly. Tomorrow they likely won’t. I really don’t get into discussion of other subjects. I dislike the piling on posters who tear into issues in New Orleans when they live in Nome, Alaska. Jealous much?

So, if nobody sees my work, what’s the point of posting anything?

Zuckerberg says the public has spoken. Yes, for Tik Toc. That’s not changing anytime soon. They started the short form video trend and they dominate it. As big as Meta is, it’s hard to catch the leader. producers? Gimme a break. They mostly post about nothing. They call themselves influencers. I follow a few of them on Instagram. They beg for “collaborations.” The few I follow are not many. There are probably millions of them. The best really do influence many people. It is a modern form of advertising. They help build brands. But, do we need a million of them?

More to the point, do I need them on my feed?

Do you?

I can really understand why you have a presence on these social feeds, and I feel for you. I have such a problem with Zuckerberg that I can’t get beyond that and avoid it all like the plague. I admit there are many things I would enjoy that I miss out on because of this decision. I suppose my intolerance also means my age is showing, but I can’t seem to do much to move myself into a place of tolerance. I’m really sorry for the dilemma these decisions present to artists as yourself. Videos versus friends? Seems like a poor bargain to me.

I have a problem with all of those digital billionaires. They are just punks with a lot of money. It’s not intolerance. It’s setting boundaries. Those are important. See tomorrow’s Storyteller. I’m turning the thing around.
