In Another World

Thailand. The name conjures all sorts of thoughts, myths and feelings. Truth be told, once you get outside of big cities the country is incredibly beautiful. The people are very friendly and helpful. And, the cost of living is very inexpensive. Oh, and the food is amazing, especially the street food.

City life can be a little intense, but understand a small city like Khon Kaen located in Issan, a region in the northwest of the country, has a population of around two million people so every city is intense.

But, this isn’t just about city life. It’s about the sights and sounds of the country. Its about the things I saw in many trips I made as extended holidays after finishing a project in Hong Kong or Singapore. It’s also about digging around in my deep archives and being pleasantly surprised.

Thank you. Musical Miss thinks we should go to Vietnam, I think not.

It’s been over 10 years since I visited Vietnam but of the many countries I’ve visited Vietnam is in the top 5. We found the people food and sites excellent. I was concerned that the War would negatively impact the Vietnamese when it came to Americans. I did not find that at all. I’d been living in Taiwan for over six years by that time and had traveled to many Asian countries. I believe I had sense of Asian people to know when something was hidden and relationships were contrived. I got honest openness from the Viennese. I’d highly recommend going. We were in the southern part of the county because traveling north during January was too cold. So go!

You know a bit of my story. There are too many unfriendly ghosts there. If I were to go, it would be to Hanoi so I could roam around the old town and stay in an old French building.
