Into The Great Nowhere

I’ve been doing some kind of drive by, or drive through shooting for years. This photograph was actually made in black and white on Tri-X film. The color comes later, much later. Like last night while I was playing around. I was much younger when I made this picture. I don’t think that I’d driveContinue reading “Into The Great Nowhere”

Cold, Cold, Cold

W hen I talk about photographing on assignment many people think it’s all glamour and excitement. Now, that I work in the background of making music I know that glamour is the last thing on anybody’s minds. It’s hard work and most of it sucks. Getting back to strictly photography, I once wrote that IContinue reading “Cold, Cold, Cold”

Fever Dreams

F antasy. Yes and no. New Orleans does occasionally get a little snow about once a decade whether it needs it or not. But, I made this snow. I pretty much made the entire picture which started out as blue. You know me. I like to fool around, tinker and play. I did all ofContinue reading “Fever Dreams”

On This One Night

C ome darkness, come light. The photograph comes from New Mexico. The words come from Virginia. They seem to cover most of my life for the last 15 years. On this Christmas Eve and — soon to be — Day, I’d like to wish every one of you a Merry Christmas and a wonderful newContinue reading “On This One Night”

Long Road Out Of There

R oad Trips. Road Trips are essential if you want to stay sane, at least for me and a lot of my friends. Kindred spirits you know. I have been to Virginia a couple of times for business. But, we avoided every possible person which wasn’t a lot of fun. I’ll show you why eventually.Continue reading “Long Road Out Of There”

Till It Shines

We had snow. It melted. We had rain. The water stuck around long enough to freeze. We had snow on top of that. I ran some errands a few miles from home. I came to this street and thought, “Oh oh.” I had no idea if it was just wet or icy. It was wetContinue reading “Till It Shines”

Snow Day

Like fire and snow. Yes. We had a little snow. Mostly it didn’t stick to the ground. I suspect the ground is still too warm. Four days ago, the temperature was in the low 80s. It’s 33 degrees as I write. I tried photographing snow as it fell. That looked okay, but not great. IContinue reading “Snow Day”

It Comes Back to the Journey

A little different color palate. But, the same vision. Under my theory of letting the picture take me, I decided not to turn this into some kind of apocalyptic nightmare. Instead, I thought about how this time and place felt. I built on that. A lot. The road is Highway 95 somewhere near Tonopah, Nevada. If you recall,Continue reading “It Comes Back to the Journey”
